The State of the Mercury News and the Future of Print Newspapers.

Mercury News Columnist Sal Pizarro will talk about changes that have affected the newspaper media industry, how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the Mercury News, and what may be in store for the future of print newspapaers.

A native of San Jose, Sal Pizarro joined the Mercury News in 1993 after his graduation from UC-Santa Barbara. After spending more than a decade working primarily as an editor for the Local News and Sports sections, he became the Merc's Around Town columnist in 2005, taking over for the retiring Leigh Weimers.

Sal's column covers a variety of people, places and events in Silicon Valley. He is a past board member of the Rotary Club of San Jose, current chair of the Leigh Weimers Emerging Artists Awards and serves on the community advisory board of Silicon Valley Reads and the selection committee for the San Jose Sports Authority's REACH Youth Scholarship Program. He lives in San Jose with his wife, Amy, and their two children.
