Caring for our Orphaned Children in their Homes when Our Economy was Shut due to Covid-19 Epidemic

Pastor Alice Atemo was born in September of 1971 to Bishop Japheth and Agnes Omucheyi in Kakamega, Kenya. Alice is blessed with two sons, Freeman (16 years) and Jim (7 years). She is also guardian to her late sister's 2 daughters, Ode Hines (16 years) and Carol Louisa (13 years), and "Mum" to 12 orphans who also live with her.

She earned her Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Community Development from Daystar University, Kenya in 1998. In 2012 she was awarded a Masters degree in Project Management and Finance from Maseno University, Kisumu, Kenya.

While working on her undergraduate program, her passion was ignited by four years of volunteer work at the street children’s home near Daystar. Driven by the desire to provide basic education to poor orphaned children cut off from school because they could not afford it, Alice founded the Overcoming Faith Schools for the Orphans in her hometown. She started the first school in early 2000 and enrolled 27 children on the first day. Since then, the school has expanded to establish three institutions in Kakamega, Nambale and Bunyore with a total enrollment of 998 children and 74 staff members.

Alice Atemo is a life member of Red Cross and sits on their regional board. She is past president and a current member of Soroptomist International, a service club that advocates for human rights and gender equality. She currently serves as the Programs Director for Soroptimst Clubs of Kenya and frequently leads Kenya Women in campaigns against gender based violence.

Alice is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Kakamega where she has served as a Club Secretary, Director of Membership, Director of Service Projects. She was club president in 2015-2016 and Assistant Governor District 9212 in 2017-2018. She is currently the District Grant expert/cadre.
